Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Afkar Journal: Islamic & Civilization Studies
Guidance for Manuscript Preparation and Submission


Scope of the Journal

Afkar Journal publishes original scholarly work related to Islamic studies and civilization, including (but not limited to) Qur’anic and Hadith studies, Islamic law and ethics, philosophy and theology, Islamic history, education, culture, interfaith dialogue, and contemporary socio-political issues from an Islamic perspective.


Submission Categories

  • Research Articles (5,000–8,000 words)

  • Theoretical or Conceptual Papers (4,000–7,000 words)

  • Book Reviews (1,000–2,000 words)

  • Short Essays or Thought Pieces (2,000–4,000 words)


Language of Manuscripts

Manuscripts are accepted in English or Arabic. All submissions must include an abstract in English (150–250 words).


Formatting Requirements

  • Font: Cambria, 10 pt, single-spaced and fully justified

  • Margin: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides

  • Referencing Style: APA 7th edition, depending on the discipline (please be consistent)

  • File Format: Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx)

  • Pages should be numbered consecutively

  • Do not include any author-identifying information in the main text (for blind review)


Manuscript Structure

A typical article should include:

  1. Title (clear and concise)

  2. Author(s) (submitted separately with affiliation and email)

  3. Abstract (in English, 150–250 words)

  4. Keywords (4–6 relevant terms)

  5. Introduction

  6. Literature Review

  7. Methodology (if applicable)

  8. Analysis/Discussion

  9. Conclusion

  10. References


Submission Process

Submit manuscripts via OJS:
Include a cover letter with the following:

  • Manuscript title

  • Type of article

  • Confirmation that the work is original and not under review elsewhere

  • Declaration of any competing interests


Peer Review Process

All submissions are subject to double-blind peer review by at least two reviewers. Authors may be asked to revise and resubmit based on reviewer feedback.


Plagiarism and Ethics

Afkar Journal uses plagiarism detection tools. Submissions must be the author’s original work and properly reference all sources. The journal follows COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) standards.


Open Access and Copyright

This is an open access journal. Authors retain copyright under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0). Articles can be freely distributed with appropriate citation.
