Peer Review Process
Determination of the articles to be published in the Global Review of Tourism and Social Sciences (GRTSS) is carried out through a double-blind peer review process, focusing on two main aspects: relevance and contribution of the article to the fields of tourism, business and management, economics and finance, and cultural studies. Editors and reviewers provide constructive feedback to authors during the manuscript evaluation. The Editor-in-Chief of GRTSS makes the final decision on which manuscripts will be published. The detailed review process is as follows:
1. Submission of Manuscripts
Authors must submit their manuscripts exclusively through the GRTSS Online Submission System (OJS) along with a Turnitin similarity report showing the similarity percentage.
2. Initial Desk Evaluation
The Editor-in-Chief conducts a preliminary review to ensure the manuscript complies with the GRTSS author guidelines and template. The manuscript must also align with the journal’s focus and scope. Manuscripts that fail to meet these criteria are rejected, allowing the author(s) to submit to another journal.
3. Similarity Check
All submitted manuscripts are required to include a Turnitin similarity report, and the editorial team will verify the report to ensure compliance with the journal’s plagiarism policy. Actions based on the similarity index are as follows:
- Above 40%: Immediate rejection due to extensive plagiarism or poor citation and paraphrasing practices.
- 20% to 40%: Major revision required. Authors must improve citation and paraphrasing and resubmit the manuscript with a new Turnitin report showing a similarity index below 20%.
- Below 20%: The manuscript is accepted with minor revisions (if necessary) to ensure proper citation and paraphrasing.
4. Editorial Board Review
The Editorial Board assesses whether the manuscript contributes sufficiently to the advancement of knowledge and practice in tourism, business and management, economics and finance, and cultural studies. Manuscripts lacking significant novelty are rejected at this stage. Qualified manuscripts move to the substantive review stage, where they are reviewed by two peer reviewers.
5. Substantive Review and Decision
After the review, the Editor-in-Chief makes a final decision based on the reviewers’ recommendations. The decision can be one of the following:
- Rejected: The manuscript is not suitable for publication due to reasons such as poor novelty, low significance, poor preparation, or overlap with existing studies.
- Accepted with Major Revision: The manuscript requires substantial revisions related to state of the art, methodology, novelty, or significance. Authors are given 4 to 12 weeks to revise.
- Accepted with Minor Revision: The manuscript requires minor revisions, typically related to compliance with GRTSS author guidelines. Authors are given 1 to 4 weeks to revise.
- Accepted without Revision: The manuscript is ready for publication without significant changes. However, proofreading will still be conducted.
6. Revision Process
Authors receive comments from the peer reviewers and the Editorial Board. Revisions must be submitted within the allocated time based on the type of revision required. If extra time is needed, authors should request an extension by contacting the Editor-in-Chief via email (aziz@gpp.ac.id). Failure to submit revisions on time without prior notice will be considered a withdrawal of the manuscript.
7. Final Acceptance and Publication
Once the manuscript is revised and accepted, it is scheduled for publication in the Global Review of Tourism and Social Sciences. Authors may request to publish their articles in a specific edition by contacting the Editor-in-Chief.
Note:
- Desk Evaluation (Steps 2 and 3): This process takes a maximum of four weeks. Manuscripts that pass this stage will have their status changed from "Awaiting Assignment" to "In Review" in the OJS system.
- Substantive Review (Step 4): This process typically takes 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the reviewers’ and editors’ timelines.
- For inquiries about the review process or delays, authors may contact the editorial team at aziz@gpp.ac.id.
