Publication Ethics

Global Review of Tourism and Social Science (GRTSS)
(Based on COPE Core Practices and Elsevier Publishing Ethics Guidelines)

GRTSS is a peer reviewed, open access journal that publishes original research in tourism and hospitality, business and management, economics, finance, business economics, and cultural studies. The journal is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and promoting credible scholarly communication.

This ethics statement applies to all participants in the publication process: authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher. The journal follows the ethical principles and best practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Duties of Authors

  • Reporting Standards: Authors must present accurate, honest, and original research. Fabrication, falsification, or misrepresentation of data constitutes unethical behavior.
  • Data Access and Retention: Authors may be required to provide raw data related to their manuscript for editorial review and should retain data for a reasonable period after publication.
  • Data Sharing and Reproducibility: Authors are encouraged to make research data available whenever possible to promote transparency and reproducibility. When appropriate, authors should provide data availability statements or deposit research data in trusted repositories.
  • Originality and Plagiarism: Manuscripts must contain original work. All submissions are screened using plagiarism detection software such as Turnitin. Any form of plagiarism is unacceptable.
  • Multiple or Concurrent Submissions: Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time.
  • Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper credit must be given to all sources and prior work that influenced the research.
  • Authorship: Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant scholarly contributions to the research. All co authors must approve the final version of the manuscript before submission.
  • Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI): Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors. If AI tools are used in writing or analysis, their use must be transparently disclosed and authors remain fully responsible for the content.
  • Ethical Approval: Research involving human participants or animals must receive appropriate ethical approval and follow relevant institutional or national guidelines.
  • Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could influence the research outcomes.
  • Corrections and Retractions: If significant errors are discovered after publication, authors must promptly notify the editors and cooperate in issuing corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions where necessary.

Duties of Reviewers

  • Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Reviewers assist editors by providing objective and constructive evaluations of submitted manuscripts.
  • Confidentiality: All manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents.
  • Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively and professionally, avoiding personal criticism of the author.
  • Acknowledgment of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors.
  • Conflicts of Interest: Reviewers must decline to review manuscripts where personal, professional, or financial conflicts of interest exist.

Duties of Editors

  • Publication Decisions: Editors decide which manuscripts are suitable for publication based on scholarly merit, originality, and relevance to the journal scope.
  • Fair Evaluation: Manuscripts are evaluated without discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, institutional affiliation, nationality, or political beliefs.
  • Confidentiality: Editors must not disclose any information about submitted manuscripts except to those involved in the editorial process.
  • Conflicts of Interest: Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where conflicts of interest may arise.
  • Handling Misconduct: Editors will take appropriate action when ethical concerns or allegations of misconduct arise.

Research Misconduct Handling

The editorial team takes reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of manuscripts in which research misconduct has occurred. Misconduct may include, but is not limited to:

  • Plagiarism
  • Data fabrication or falsification
  • Citation manipulation
  • Duplicate publication
  • Improper authorship attribution

The journal does not encourage or knowingly allow such misconduct. All manuscripts undergo editorial screening and plagiarism detection prior to peer review.

If allegations of research misconduct arise regarding a submitted or published article, the editors will investigate the matter carefully and confidentially. The journal follows the ethical procedures and recommendations established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in handling such cases.
